Wellington's bright-red cable car has climbed from Lambton Quay to the suburb of Kelburn since 1902, rising 120 metres in five minutes to a lookout over the city and harbour. At the top are the Cable Car Museum and the entrance to the Wellington Botanic Garden, which you can wander back down through to the city.
