Surreal geothermal park — the Champagne Pool and Devil’s Bath; Lady Knox geyser at 10:15.

Why go

The surreal colours — especially the Champagne Pool and Devil's Bath — make it the most photogenic thermal area in the country.

Wai-O-Tapu ('sacred waters') is the most colourful of Rotorua's geothermal parks, a 3-km network of boardwalks past collapsed craters, steaming ground and vividly mineral-stained pools — the orange-rimmed Champagne Pool and the fluorescent-green Devil's Bath are the icons. The Lady Knox Geyser, a short drive away, is induced to erupt daily at 10:15am.
