Roys Peak Track
Steep but iconic ridge climb to a famous Lake Wānaka panorama (16 km return).
Why go
One of the most rewarding (and Instagram-famous) viewpoints in the country — the lake-and-mountains payoff is huge.
Roys Peak is the Wānaka day-hike that launched a thousand photos — a relentless but non-technical climb up open tussock farmland to a ridge with a sweeping panorama over Lake Wānaka, Ruby Island and the peaks toward Aspiring. The famous viewpoint is at a switchback below the true summit; the summit itself adds altitude and a fuller view.
