An easy, jungle-like walk into a stunning limestone gorge lined with nikau palms — the perfect complement to the Pancake Rocks.
Just north of the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, the Pororari River Track follows the slow green river upstream into a dramatic limestone canyon draped in nikau palms and subtropical rainforest. The wide, mostly flat path feels almost Jurassic, with towering karst bluffs rising on either side and swimming holes on hot days. Walk as far as you like and turn back, or link it into the longer Punakaiki–Pororari loop.
