Mt Iron Track
Short, sharp 360° climb above Wānaka — the easy alternative to Roys Peak.
Why go
A big-view summit you can do in well under two hours — perfect when you want the panorama without the all-day Roys Peak grind.
A glacier-carved roche moutonnée rising straight out of Wānaka township, Mt Iron gives a panoramic loop walk to a 240 m summit with views over Lake Wānaka, Lake Hāwea, the Clutha basin and the surrounding ranges. The loop climbs steadily through regenerating bush and tussock and is a fraction of the commitment of Roys Peak.
