One of the South Island's highest sealed roads, Lindis Pass carries State Highway 8 over a saddle blanketed in golden native tussock that ripples in the wind and glows in low light. The bare, rounded hills feel starkly beautiful and otherworldly, marking the transition between the vineyards of Central Otago and the wide Mackenzie basin. A lookout near the summit lets you take in the sweeping tussock ridgelines.
