Hot Water Beach
Dig your own hot pool in the sand at low tide where a geothermal spring meets the sea.
Why go
Soaking in a pool you dug yourself, with the surf rolling in metres away, is pure novelty fun and free.
At Hot Water Beach an underground geothermal spring rises beneath the sand, so for about two hours either side of low tide you can dig your own steaming spa pool right on the beach. It's a uniquely Coromandel experience — bring or hire a spade and find the hot patch in front of the rocks.
