Hahei Beach
Golden-sand Coromandel beach village and the launchpad for Cathedral Cove and sea-kayak trips.
Why go
A postcard Coromandel beach that doubles as the gateway to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach.
Hahei is a laid-back cliff-backed village fronting a long curve of pinkish-gold sand, tinted by crushed shells washed in from the offshore islands. It's the natural base for the Coromandel's headline attractions — Cathedral Cove is a walk or water-taxi hop north, and Hot Water Beach lies just south. Guided sea-kayak trips launch straight off the sand to paddle the sea caves and arches of the marine reserve.
