Crown Range Summit
New Zealand's highest sealed main road — a 1,076 m alpine pass between Wānaka and the Queenstown basin.
Why go
A spectacular alpine drive and viewpoint — the scenic alternative to the SH6 Kawarau Gorge route, with the historic Cardrona Hotel on the way.
The Crown Range Road climbs to 1,076 m, the highest sealed through-road in the country, linking Wānaka and Cardrona with Arrowtown and Queenstown. The summit lookout opens onto the Wakatipu basin far below; the southern descent is a famous set of hairpin switchbacks down to the Arrow valley.
