Blue Pools, Haast Pass
Short forest walk to startlingly clear glacial-blue pools and a swing bridge.
Why go
Startlingly clear, electric-blue glacial water reached by an easy forest stroll — a perfect break on the long Haast Pass drive.
A short walk through silver beech forest off the Haast Pass highway leads to swing bridges over the Blue Pools, where glacier-fed water from the Makarora River runs so clear and mineral-tinted it glows an unreal blue. Brave souls leap from the bridge into the (very cold) pools in summer.
