Arrowtown
Gold-rush village of restored cottages, a Chinese settlement and autumn colour.
Why go
The most charming historic village in the south — gold-rush heritage, great cafés and (in season) NZ's best autumn colour.
A beautifully preserved 1860s gold-rush town near Queenstown, Arrowtown lines its main street with restored stone-and-timber cottages now holding cafés, galleries and shops. The riverside Chinese Settlement recalls the Chinese miners who worked the Arrow River, and the avenue of deciduous trees turns spectacularly gold in autumn.
